Salvatore "Sal" Mille Jr.

1933 - 2023

Salvatore "Sal" Mille Jr., 90, of Bloomfield, beloved husband for 69 years to the late Geraldine Mille, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 23, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. Born in Bloomfield on July 12, 1933, son of the late Salvatore Mille Sr. and Assunta (Grasso) Mille, he was raised in Hartford and returned to Bloomfield as a young man in 1959, eight years after marrying the love of his life Geraldine (Smith) Mille.

Sal started working as a truck driver with his father as soon as he could drive. He bought his first truck shortly after his 16th birthday and drove for over 50 years as an owner and operator in the construction industry. His business, Sal Mille Jr. Trucking, was known for its reliability and his meticulously maintained truck. Sal was supported by his wife Geraldine who was home caring for their children and maintaining his books. Over the years, he worked on many large projects throughout the State of Connecticut. He was very proud of his participation in the creation of roadways and buildings that had a huge impact on the lives of people in the community such as Interstates 91, 95, 84, 291 and the parking garages surrounding the hospitals in Hartford. During the winter months, Sal plowed throughout the State until construction projects were able to begin again. Every night Sal returned home to his family in Bloomfield and meticulously cared for his truck by greasing parts, washing it, and even regrooving the tires. Sal was a tireless worker and was up every morning at 4 a.m. and drove for almost 50 years until his retirement in 1997.

In his free time, he loved giving his children and later his grandchildren advice and life lessons. He enjoyed helping the many people he met during his life and would do anything for his family, especially his wife Geraldine who he simply adored. His favorite pastimes included taking the family to the Connecticut Shore during the summer months and sitting down with family to enjoy his favorite meal- spaghetti and meatballs made with tomatoes raised in his garden that were specially prepared by his wife. Most of all, Sal enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as relaxing at home with his family, enjoying one of his favorite sweets - donuts, pound cake, ice cream, or hard candies - mowing his lawn, or watching one of his favorite TV shows, many of which were about trucking.

He leaves five children, William Mille of Tolland, Rosemary Tucker of Rockledge, FL, Judy Mathias and her husband Jerry of Port Orange, FL, Joan Macri and her significant other Dennis Souza of Edgewater, FL, and Joseph Mille and his wife Linda of South Windsor; four grandchildren, Kimberly Derosier and her husband Donald Jr. of Vernon, Monica Winkler and her husband Brian of Vernon, Michelle Strich and her husband Jeffrey of Potomac, MD, and Joseph Mille, Jr. of Medway, MA; seven great-grandchildren, Shea and her fiancé Travis, Colby, Dominic, Anthony, Joshua, Amalie, and Austin; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Carl Tucker and Louis Macri; four brothers, Frederick Guerra, Michael Guerra, Tony Guerra, and Biagio Mille; and three sisters, Mary Muschette, Ann Noel, and Connie Lipski.

His family will receive friends on Saturday, July 29, 9-10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., in the chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor.
