On Feb 12, 2026, Samuel “Sam” David Adkins of Kenova WV, 87, son of the late Delbert and Gladys Adkins, finished his race and has found his peace in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Samuel is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Joy Louise Adkins in whom his life was dedicated for almost 62 years. He is also survived by their children Rebecca (Richard) Irvin, Rhonda (Darren) Smith, Melinda (Todd) Cremeans, Dava Adkins and his son-n-law Jeremiah Wilcox; his brother Delbert Adkins, his nephew Gary(Beverly) Slayton, 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Samuel served in the United States Air Force under President Eisenhower’s administration. While stationed at Morón Air Force Base, he was chosen by his superiors to represent the United States of America in the Morocco Golf Championship. While in Spain, Samuel accepted Jesus Christ as his savior and began his walk of faith. Later, he became an ordained minister; he then spent his life in service to his Heavenly Father preaching the gospel, witnessing for Jesus, feeding the widow with food he and Louise grew in their garden, and visiting nursing homes to minister. Samuel also retired from Steel of West Virginia where he worked for many years.
He was very passionate about golf and sharing his love of the sport with his family and friends. Samuel often spent time on the golf course with any of his family or friends who wanted to join him. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and bowling but the thing he loved to do most was talk about his love for Jesus and how thankful he was for God’s forgiveness and love.
Samuel was preceded in death by his siblings Annise Berry, Iris Basenback, Rosetta Barbour, Thelma Slayton, and Virgil Adkins and a nephew, Michael Slayton.
The family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to Todd and Terri Slayton, along with their daughter Tabitha Raines, for their assistance and support during this time. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 pm Monday, February 16, 2026 at the Reger Funeral Chapel, Huntington. Entombment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.regerfh.com.
