Sam J.H. Neal, age 85, peacefully completed his earthly journey on December 17, 2025, following a short illness. He was born on June 6, 1940, in Mount Enterprise, Texas, to Milton Neal and Lettie Mae Sanders Neal. At an early age, Sam accepted Christ into his life, a faith that remained a quiet foundation throughout his years.

Sam graduated from Hollis High School in 1961. Shortly thereafter, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1967. Following his military service, Sam worked with the California Highway Patrol beginning in 1968. In 1969, he returned to Oklahoma City to be closer to family, where he explored several lines of work, including cross-country truck driving and insurance sales.

Sam was never more himself than when he had grease on his hands and an engine in front of him. His love for motors led him to a career as a mechanic, work that brought him both purpose and pride. He also had a passion for photography and was rarely without a camera, faithfully capturing moments at family gatherings, reunions, and special events. In his later years, Sam retired from Clifford Wrecker Service, where he worked as a tow truck driver.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Byron Neal Sr.; and his siblings, Obie Neal, M.J. Neal, Daisy Tate, Calvin Neal, Mary Carter, Juard Neal, Marlou Shaw, and Mildred Neal.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his sons, Sam Neal Jr. and Lonnie Neal of Oklahoma City; his siblings, Della Gaddie of Tampa, Florida; Billy Neal (Dorothy) of Wichita, Kansas; Lonnie Neal of Oklahoma City, Ricky Neal (Mary) of Arlington, Texas; Myra Patterson of Mansfield, Texas; and Carlton Neal (Fancie) of Yukon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepchildren, nieces, and nephews who were blessed by his presence.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Betty Luke and Charlyn Neal for the compassion, care, and love they showed Sam during his final days.

Sam has finished his race and now rests in God’s everlasting peace.
