It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Samantha Mills Knott, 49, of Spotsylvania County, on August 9, 2025. Samantha was a loving soul whose presence touched the lives of so many.

Samantha was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 8, 1975, to Donald and Rebecca Mills. At age five, the family moved to Spotsylvania County where her father worked as an accountant for the Silver Companies and her mother as a teacher for Spotsylvania County Public Schools. Samantha graduated from Chancellor High School (1993), received a B.S. from Virginia Tech in Accounting and Information Systems (1997), a MBA in Supply Chain Management from North Carolina State University (2007) and was a CPA. She was employed by IBM in Raleigh, NC (1997-2010) where she worked as an Accounting Professional for multinational corporations and as an Accounting Manager. She traveled widely for IBM – Silicon Valley, Ireland, Switzerland, India, Australia – and made many life-long friends.

In 2010, Samantha married James Odell Knott, Jr. and the couple returned to Spotsylvania to make their home near family. In 2011, she founded Knott Findings, LLC, a successful eCommerce business, where she worked tirelessly to become one of the top female sellers on Amazon, eBay, Walmart and other venues.

Family and friends were always the cornerstone of her life. Over the years, she remained connected to her high school, college and business friends, who remember her sparkling eyes, vibrant laughter, and the ability to always be optimistic. In 2011, with great joy, she gave birth to her only child, Bryce Alexander Mills Knott. She was a wonderful mom - loving, nurturing – leading Bryce to do his best in sports, Scouts, school, and life.

On February 9, 2023, Samantha was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a fast growing, terminal cancer, for which there is no known cure. With her husband, Jim, constantly by her side, she endured brain surgery, radiation, and chemo because she wanted to live for her family. LOVE was her favorite word. She seldom complained, always was kind, and said "thank you" numerous times a day to anyone helping her do the smallest things. Exactly two and a half years later, August 9, 2025, her battle ended. It is hard to imagine a world in which our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister is no longer here. Sam was a beautiful soul who blessed us all with her love, faithfulness, kindness, intelligence and beauty. Though she is no longer on Earth, we know she is rejoicing with our Holy Father in Heaven and her family who have journeyed before her.

Survivors include her husband of 15 years, James Knott; parents, Donald and Rebecca Mills; son, Bryce Knott; step-children, Garec Knott (Madison Traynham), Jenna Knott (Elizabeth), and Jillian Knott; grandchildren, Skylar, Stella, and Solei Knott; sister, Carrie Mills Kadel (Joshua); nephew, Jed Kadel; niece, Evelyn Kadel; aunts, Carol Butler and Deborah Britt; uncles, Vernon Lee Eustace, Jr. (Barbara) and Ronald Mills (Sherrie); and cousins, Dwayne, Devin, and Dana McDaniel, Eric Mills, Casey Stewart, Amanda Eustace, Heather Gaydish, Vernon Eustace III, Jon Butler, Jessica Butler, Katie Hoffman, and David Britt.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 22, at the funeral home chapel with an hour prior visitation. Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery.
