Sammie Lee Fields, 81, a beloved member of the community, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Born on May 30, 1944, in Hamilton, Monroe County, Mississippi, Sammie lived a life rich in experiences and profound connections. Sammie retired in 2007 with 30 years of service at TRONOX in Hamilton, MS, where he worked for many years.
Sammie’s legacy is defined by his unwavering love for his family and friends. He is survived by his devoted mother, Mattie Lou Clark - Fields, and his cherished wife, Willie Era Vasser - Fields; (2) sons: Timothy J. Fields and Craig D. (Sherrie) Fields; (2) daughters: Latunja Fields and Shelia Fields (Bennie) Washington; (1) brother: Tommie Lee (Lady Dedan) Fields, Jr.; (1) sister: Ida Mae Fields-Hampton; his bonus children: Marian Chandler (Rodney, Sr.) Gandy, Vanessa Chandler, and Roderick Chandler; grandchildren; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends. The bonds he created with his family were marked by love, loyalty, and support, and he took immense pride in the relationships he nurtured throughout his life.
Sammie was preceded in death by his father, Tommie Lee Fields, Sr., and his sister, Julia Mae Fields-Richardson. Their memories remain etched in the hearts of those who knew them, and they are fondly remembered by Sammie's loved ones.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Belle Memorial Funeral Home, located at 216 Hwy 25 South, PO Box 129, Aberdeen, MS. Following this gathering, a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at New Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, starting at 12:00 PM. This will be an opportunity for friends and family to come together, share memories, and honor the remarkable life of Sammie Lee Fields.
Sammie Lee Fields will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit and the impact he made in the lives of others will continue to resonate with those he leaves behind.
