Sammy L. Collins, age 89 of Cross Plains, passed away peacefully at home on July 26, 2024. Sammy was born in Waynesboro, TN on September 14, 1934 to the late Luiza Attkisson and the late John Armstrong Collins.
In addition to his parents, Sammy was preceded in death by his brother, Bernie Collins; sister, Beatrice Johnson (Ira); granddaughter, April Rich; and beloved cousin, Chris Lackey.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Collins; children, Felecia Cox (Jeff) of Florence, AL, Deidra McKnight of Nashville, TN, and son, Joseph Collins of Nashville, TN; sister, Linda Knoch (Garland) of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Canetha Frost, Cody Collins, Brock Collins, and Noell Guisti; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Sammy was born and raised in Waynesboro, Tennessee; a graduate of Waynesboro High School, Sammy joined the United States Air Force immediately and served for twenty years before retirement. During his Air Force career he was stationed at Ft. Robbins AFB, Laughlin AFB, Taiwan, and Sewart AFB. After his retirement from the military, Sammy was successfully employed in human resources, sales, and was a business owner. He loved camping, fishing, visiting and talking to friends and neighbors.
Visitation with Sammy's family will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville.
