Sammy Dale Gilpin Sr.

Sammy "Sam" Dale Gilpin Sr. entered into eternal peace on Monday, January 26, 2026.

He was born in Carthage, NY, later settled into family life in New Jersey, and had been planning to return to his hometown in the spring.

Sam was a genuine, kind-hearted family man who loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and devotion to his family.

He was predeceased by his mother Doris Gilpin (Brockway) and his daughter Tracy Gilpin. He is survived by his sister Connie Abel and brother-in-law Louie Abel; and his sister Susan Black and brother-in-law Gary Black; his brother Larry Gilpin Jr. and sister-in-law Karen Gilpin; his son Sammy Jr. and daughter-in-law Brittany; his sons Sean and Justin; his daughter Christina and son-in-law Chris; and his five beloved grandchildren: Leiah, Maddilyn, Riley, Luke, and Connor.

Sam spent the majority of his career working as an auto mechanic, a profession that allowed him to follow his passion for working on cars.

Before that, he proudly served his country as a Vietnam War veteran, answering the call of duty with courage, discipline and honor. He served in both the United States Army and the United States Navy, a rare distinction that spoke to his deep sense of commitment and service. His time in uniform shaped the man he became - steady, selfless, and quietly strong - values he carried with him throughout his life.

Beyond his work and service, Sam was a devoted and loving father to his four children and a friend to many. He was one of the most humble people you could ever meet, always carrying himself with quiet strength and grace. In his quieter moments, Sam found joy in simple pleasures - kayaking at Milton Lake, fishing, spending time at the beach, working on puzzles and Lego sets, taking walks around town, and pausing to appreciate the beauty of nature around him.

Sam achieved much throughout his life, but his greatest accomplishment was the family he built and the friendships he formed along the way.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at the Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home located at 275 West Milton Ave, Rahway, NJ
