Sammy Gutierrez Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 19, 2024.
Sammy Gutierrez, age 83, a lifetime resident of Georgetown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 18, 2024.
Sammy was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and most importantly grandfather, and great-grandfather. Sammy was born in Georgetown, Texas in 1940 to Jose Maria Gutierrez, and Belen Zamora Gutierrez.
In 1963 Sammy married Delia Gonzales, the love of his life. The couple settled down in Georgetown where they were both raised. Sammy spent his life working in construction. He started out as a bricklayer, then moved on to driving heavy machinery until he retired.
His interests were always sports with football being his favorite. He always had time to talk about his "Dallas Cowboys"! Sammy played baseball in his later years with the City of Georgetown's Baseball League, and also enjoyed shooting pool on his downtime. After he retired his favorite enjoyment was spending time with his family. Oh, and let's not forget his Friday night wrestling! No matter where he was or what he was doing, he would always rush back home so that he could sit down and enjoy his
Friday Night Luchas. The one thing that Sammy always had time for was his family. Sammy's grandchildren and great-grandchildren became his priority. Family was always very important to him. Every holiday or special occasion was always spent with his daughter and her family. He was also never one to turn down a weekend at the lake. He was always the first one to ask "what do I need to bring?" Sammy also had one thing that he cherished from the time that he got it, his pickup truck! That was his baby! Don't talk about his Cowboys or his truck or you would be up for a debate. Sammy always had a sense of humor, and his grandsons would always push him to the limit when it came to his sense of humor. If they were not playing jokes on him, they were calling him on the phone and pulling pranks. His favorite was always when they would record him using silly filters. He always got a good laugh out of those. Sammy was truly a 24-hour family man! In many words he was the car-washer, argument-squasher, lawn-seeder, bedtime story-reader, trash-disposer, allowance-bestower, lawn-mower, ballgame-goer and much, much more.
From his daughter: I sit here this morning after a long weekend of trying to figure out how to describe my father in just a few paragraphs. This wasn't easy, because I could talk all day about him. My father was my world! My son's and my great-granddaughter were used to having my father in their lives on a daily basis. This will be a struggle for us all. We will never get that phone call, or knock on the door
from him ever again. That first Father's Day, Birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be the hardest for us all. I will miss hearing him say as he always did every year right before his birthday "Mi'ja Don't get me anything for my birthday, because I don't need anything." To my dad, I want you to know that it was an honor to have been there for you in the end. This isn't a goodbye, but a see you again. ~Tiffany~
Sammy was proceeded in death by his parents Jose and Belen Gutierrez, his wife Delia Gutierrez, his son Randy Gutierrez, his brother Ruperto Gutierrez and sisters Celia Zertuche, and Sarah Miranda.
