Joseph Samuel Morris, lovingly known as “Sammy,” was born on March 12, 1953, in Ahoskie, North Carolina. He moved with his family to Virginia’s Eastern Shore around 1960, where he built a life filled with hard work, dedication, and love.
Sammy passed peacefully at his home in Cashville, VA, on August 9, 2025, with his devoted wife, Pat, by his side.
A beloved husband, brother, and friend, Sammy will be remembered for his generous spirit, sense of humor, and loyal companionship—especially to his little dog, Ellie Mae. He was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan, a passionate follower of NASCAR—cheering on Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott—and a skilled craftsman. His love for carpentry led him to create his own business, specializing in custom cabinetry and historic renovations.
Sammy proudly served his community as a founding member of the Onley Volunteer Fire Department alongside his father. He was also a member of both the Onley and Cashville Baptist Churches, and a proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Accomac Lodge #1766.
One of Sammy’s greatest joys was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Whether it was a long, open-road journey or a short ride down the Shore, his Harley was more than just a bike—it was his freedom, his escape, and his time for reflection. He often said that the rumble of the engine and the wind on his face could clear his mind and help him solve any problem. Those rides brought him peace, joy, and some of his happiest memories.
He cherished many passions in life, but none more than his wife of 45 years, Pat, with whom he shared countless adventures, including many miles on that beloved Harley.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Luther Randolph Morris. He is survived by his loving wife Pat; his sister, Sheila Thomas (Scott) of Cashville, VA; his sisters-in-law, Linda Harold (Dinwiddie, VA), Barbie Colonna (Onley, VA), and Cathy Johnson (John) of Leemont, VA; several nieces and nephews; along with many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 1:00PM at Doughty Funeral Home, with Danny Shrieves officiating. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge, #1766 in Accomac.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or the Eastern Shore SPCA, PO Box 164, Onley, Virginia 23418 in Sammy’s memory.
