Sammy "Sam" Charles Vann, 85, of La Porte, passed away peacefully at 4:50 a.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Northwest Health in La Porte
He was born on August 8, 1940 in Harriman, Tennessee to Samuel Vann and Ines (Moore) Fritts.
Sam worked in construction for many years and later went on to work for the railroad and Allis Chalmers. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene. Sam loved fishing, hunting, going to garage sales, classic cars and he loved animals, especially his dog Ginger. Sam was greatly loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his; three daughters, Cindy Boucher, Angela Niegos, Pamela Wiltfong; son, Michael (Michelle) Vann; six sisters, Lucille Hufstedler, Martha, Ann (David) Cranfield, Lisa, Lois (Rick) Barker; nine brothers, Eddie Vann, Freddie Vann, Robert Vann, Willie Vann; six granddaughters, Lindsi, Gulianna, Gillian, Gabbie, Ashley, Natalie; five grandsons, Tyler, Jeff, Gage, Grant, Jacob; companion, Lil Giford; and trusted friend, Alvin Giford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eston (Connie) Vann, Roy Vann, Woody Vann, John Fritts, Bob Fritts, Leonard Vann, sisters, Thelma, Catherine Howard, granddaughter, Andrea
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2025 at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, (219) 362-3333 with pastor Kenny Wright officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will take place at Patton Cemetery in La Porte. There will be a dinner after the service at the La Porte First Church of Nazarene, 2147 W. Ash St., La Porte.
