Sammye Elaine Meredith Bell, age 91 of Waverly, TN passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family. Elaine was born on May 19, 1932, in Hurricane Mills, TN to the late Maud Estelle and Dillard Watson Meredith.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen Serra (Johnny) of Murfreesboro, Steve Bell, Burns and Keith Bell, Gallatin; her three beloved grandchildren, Devi Bell, Gallatin, Eli Bell, Waverly and Elli Bell, Gallatin; and her brother, Ewell Meredith, Duck River.
Along with her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James Clint Bell.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. with service to directly follow at Luff-Bowen in Waverly. Officiating the service will be Bro. Jeff Keele. Interment to follow at Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly, TN.
Elaine was a lifelong member of the Waverly Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and worked with her fellow church members on many local and reginal projects. She spent her later years volunteering to work on the weekly bulletin and any other areas of need within the church.
Elaine started her professional career at the Waverly Garment Factory before moving on to City Hall to handle dispatch duties for the Waverly Police Department. She then worked at Meriwether-Lewis Electric Co-Operative and ended her distinguished career with many years in a variety of areas at Three Rivers Hospital, retiring in 2007. Toward the end of her career, Elaine was bitten by the travel bug and was fortunate to travel to Alaska, Hawaii, The Grand Canyon and Nova Scotia among other places.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Cancer Research, Animal Rescue, and/or Waverly Church of Christ.
