Sam was more than a member of our community, he was a teacher of faith, friendship, joy, and authenticity. For 47 years, Sam shared life with L'Arche Erie, reminding us daily that each person is a gift to the world just as they are.
Whether through his love of riding around the Peninsula, walking around Asbury Woods, attending Tuesday Chat 'n Chew, or watching Wheel of Fortune, Sam brought light and laughter to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Sam was kind, loving, funny, smart, and of course, handsome!
In L'Arche, Sam taught us the meaning of community: that belonging is not about ability or accomplishments, but about being truly seen and loved. Sam was greatly loved by his Serenity housemates and by the many friends who filled his life. Sam had an infectious smile that made everyone love him everywhere he went. Sam's life was a living reminder that every person has a place in this world, and that our world is richer because of the bonds we share.
Sam will be deeply missed by all his L'Arche Erie friends and family. While we grieve, we also celebrate a life that touched countless hearts and left an indelible mark on the L'Arche Erie family.
Viewing will be held on Monday August 25, 2025, from 4pm-7pm at Brugger Funeral Homes located at 1595 W. 38th Street, Erie, Pa. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday August 26, 2025, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 10am. Burial will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to L'Arche Erie, so that Sam's legacy of joy, belonging, and love may continue.
May Samuel Giulio Benigni rest in eternal peace and may we carry forward the lessons of love and friendship he so generously shared.
