Samuel Wayne Cox Sr., 77, husband of Mary Frances Tillett Cox, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024. He was born in Casey County, Kentucky, on September 24, 1947, to the late Clayton Cox and Elizabeth Verdie Peyton Cox. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Cox; sons, Samuel Wayne Cox Jr. (Effie), and Mark A. Cox; brother, J. C. Cox (Elizabeth); brother-in-law, William F. Frye; sisters-in-law, Connie Cox, and Kathy Cox; granddaughter, Andrea Murphy (William); great-grandson, Felix; and a host of other family and friends. He is preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Susan Cox; brothers, Alvin Owen Cox, Estill Leon Cox, Dawson Cleo Cox, Kenneth Eugene Cox, and Carl Cox; sister, Virginia “Doris” Frye; and sisters-in-law, Josephine Cox, and Marie Cox. Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, October 7, at Betts & West Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
