Indianapolis – Samuel Lee Gudger, 79, departed this life on November 29, 2025 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis after a brief illness.
Samuel was born on September 21, 1946 in West Sanford, North Carolina to Artie and Bertha (McLean) Gudger and later graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1966.
He went on to work for Westinghouse and then became a Professional Truck Driver, working for various companies and eventually retiring from Marsh Supermarkets after thirty-five years of service. Samuel was awarded for his safe driving during his entire thirty-five year career.
He loved bowling and was inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame on September 21, 2013. Samuel started a bowling scholarship for kids in high school. He also enjoyed riding horses. Samuel was loving and kind, never met a stranger and he loved telling jokes.
He leaves to celebrate his memory, wife, Eudora Gudger; Mary Lou Holland, who he considered is second mother; his children, Danielle Gudger, Anthony Gudger (Verna), Priscilla Hammond; his step-children, Lonnie Motley III, Robyn Motley and Kortney Motley; his grandchildren, Saniya Love, Joseph Love III, Shmariyah Walker, Marquise Walker, Jerrett Hammond, Terry Custard and Clayteona Lindsey; nieces, Kisha Reese, Kelley Rowe, Tonya Gudger; nephews, Troy Gudger, Dewayne Gudger; along with a special friend, Darris Harris and a host of great-grandchildren.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Floyd Gudger, Lloyd Gudger and Brend Rowe.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Glad Tidings Church, 3001 S. Burlington Dr. with Pastor Kevin Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, north of Muncie.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.
