Samuel Wayne Hatch, beloved son, father, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend passed away at 3:20 PM on Monday, April 6, 2020, after an extended stay at the Cornerstone Specialty Hospital. Wayne was born the third child to Mr. and Mrs. Lovic and Lela (Pryor) Hatch in Houston, TX. He accepted our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at an early age at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. H.O. Scott and later continued service as a teenager under the direction of Pastor A. Doyal McCraw. He graduated from Wheatley High School in Houston, TX. Wayne chose to honor his country by joining the United States Marine Corps in January 1968 and was later deployed to the Vietnam War. He serviced five years as a Rifleman until he was honorably discharged on October 2, 1973. On September 14, 1971, he was married to Regina Ducrest, and to their union, was born their only daughter, Nicol Nashan Hatch. He later pursued a career as contractor and pipe fitter for seven years with Brown and Root, and as a truck driver for eleven years with Peden Iron and Steel Company. He later assisted his nephew in running the family cleaners. Wayne rededicated his life to the Lord while a member of Iron Sharpening Iron Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Inger Smith. He was a loving, humorous, kind, and giving man who had a passion for cooking for his family. Wayne Hatch was known for making friends; he never met a stranger. He loved the Lord, and his favorite saying was, “Pack fair ten times with the man upstairs, and you will be square.” He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lovic and Lela Hatch, and his beloved sister, Judy Lorraine (Hatch) Winfield. Wayne leaves to cherish his memory his only daughter, Nicol Nashan (Hatch) Bashir, two sisters: Sharon Ann (Hatch) Smith, Sandra Kay (Hatch) Fonteno, two brother in-laws, Huey Fonteno, Sr. and Paul Winfield, Sr., nieces: Inger Smith, Latasha Thomas, Cassandra Echols, Lela Marshall, and Ashley Pryor (honorable niece), nephews: Donnie Smith, Paul Winfield, Jr., Huey Fonteno, Jr., a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives, and friends.
Samuel Wayne Hatch departed this life April 6, 2020. Visitation Wednesday April 15, 2020, from 9-10am. Funeral 10am. Services will be held in the Chapel of Ross Mortuary 3618 Lyons Ave. Houston, Tx. 77020. Interment Houston Nation V.A. Cemetery.
