Pastor Samuel Carl Pierson, Jr. 44, of
Hurricane, WV passed away on January 1, 2026, at his residence in Hurricane, West Virgina from an untimely accident. His sudden passing has deeply shaken his family and his amazing church community, for everyone who knew this great godly man loved him. Sam will be remembered for his kind heart and the light that he brought into all the lives of those around him. He had a rare gift for brightening even the darkest days, a quality best described by the many who say, "he put a smile on my face every time I saw him". His ability to offer solace and bring genuine joy was a testament to his deeply compassionate and generous spirit.
Samuel C. Pierson, Jr. was born on June 22, 1981, in
Newport News, Virginia to Sam Carl Pierson and Cindy Christine Carte Pierson Simpson.
Sam attended Capital High School, where he was a member of the ROTC program. After graduating he enlisted in the West Virginia Army National Guard, completing his training at Fort Gordon in 2001. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2003 and later deployed to Iraq with the 201st Field Artillery Battalion, where he was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his service, Sam also worked as a Federal Technician in various J6 roles, including COMSEC Custodian for West Virginia. Sam separated from enlisted service in 2009 due to his combat injuries. He would continue to serve his country and the State of West Virginia throughout his career as a Military Authority employee specializing in patching and database administration and security. Sam's career was marked with numerous awards including the Army Commendation Medal, and Combat Action Badge. He valued his military service, and his family is very proud of his dedication and sacrifice for all of us.
His treasured daughter, Alex, came to him in 2008 and gave him his first true purpose, brightening his life in immeasurable ways. He was foremost a devoted father, and it was rare to see him without his "Bear" as he called her, right by his side.
Sam married the love of his life Erin Beth Linville Huey on April 25, 2014, adding another beautiful daughter to his family, Layla Grace Huey. Together, they joyfully dedicated their lives to serving the Lord through the ministry He entrusted to them. Sam completed the WV South District School of Ministry where he later became an Ordained Elder in the Church of Nazarene in July 2021. Sam served as the lead pastor at Grace Church of the Nazarene in South Charleston for seven and a half years where he saw a great potential for growth and had a clear vision for guiding the church to serve God's purpose. Under his guidance the small flock blossomed into a thriving community. His work will continue to inspire and guide the church for generations to come. Sam was known for his great sense of humor and for putting witty lines in the church's marquee along with investing in the church and his community. He dedicated his life to shepherding others with compassion, wisdom, and Christlike love.
Sam was the owner of Profix LLC, a residential and commercial construction company, where he combined skill and passion through building, remodeling, and repairing with care and craftmanship. His hobbies included working on cars by customizing them with one of his best friends, Dave, autocross racing, camping, boating, and computers.
