Samuel Santoro Obituary

Samuel A. "Sam" Santoro, 94, formerly of New Kensington, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023. He was born June 18, 1929, in New Kensington, and also lived in Lower Burrell and Woodstock, Ga., the past 24 years. Mr. Santoro served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emilio R. Santoro and Elizabeth Santoro (Conteen); brothers, Fredrick "Freddie" and Emidio "Amy;" and son-in-law, Don Lysacek. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edna (Ward) Santoro; sister, Rose Marie (Santoro) Sukala; daughters, Tanya Santoro Lysacek and Chyrisse Santoro (Russell) Chason; grandchildren, Laura Lysacek, Cole (Laurel) Chason, Evan (Dang) Lysacek, Dana Chason (Tom) May and Christina Lysacek (Ryan) Metzger; and seven great-grandchildren. Sam's true passion was his family, helping and taking care of people with whatever was necessary. He kept everyone entertained and laughing with all of the great stories that he told, especially the ones that included his best friend and brother-in-law, Ernie Pradelli. Sam was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, following the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins even after his move to Georgia in 1999. He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, serving for many years on various committees. He was also a member of the Seventh Street Sportsman's Club. Sam was employed many years by Galli Beer Distributing Co., Keystone Dairy and Watson Standard Paint. Visitation will be from 11:45 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in St. George Orthodox Church, 1150 Leishman Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068. Burial and military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Sam to St. George Orthodox Church. ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME OF NEW KENSINGTON was entrusted with the arrangements.
