Samuel Dean Scruggs was born November 24, 1950 in Caldwell, West Virginia, he was the youngest of nine children. He served in the Army from 1970 to 1971 stationed at Ahn Khe Vietnam. A resident of Okeechobee since 1980, he served this town with many construction projects. He was well known for the knowledge and expertise of construction and his friendly nature. He worked at Home Depot for 9 years and was respected and requested by many customers. He treated everyone with respect and loved helping others. He was a generous and loving person who made friends easily.
Mr. Scruggs was preceded in death by his loving mother, Anne Catherine (Loudermilk) Scruggs; father, George Oscar Scruggs; sisters, Dorothy Lee Whitehead and Flora Ann Bryant; brothers, Larry Thomas Scruggs, William Harless Scruggs and Gary Calvin Scruggs, Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Juanita "Jeanie" Jean (Jackson) Scruggs of Okeechobee, Fl.; son, Christopher Michael Scruggs, of North Carolina; daughters, Meredith Anne Peer (Chris) of Spring Hill, Fl., Katrina Deanne Wolford (Daryl) of Okeechobee, Fl., Amanda Leanne Scruggs of Okeechobee, Fl; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Erma Belle Bryant and Carolyn Sue Trail; brother, Grady Dale Scruggs; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
