Samuel "Sam" Sides

Samuel Sides, a.k.a "walking Sam" 70, of Palmyra, passed away at 2:27 pm Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Levering Regional Healthcare Center in Hannibal, MO.
The community is invited to Sam's Memorial Service to be held at 10:00 am Wednesday October 11, 2023, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra, MO. Rev. Eric Anderson will officiate.
Sam was a well-known member of our community. He was born September 29, 1952, in Peoria, IL to Samuel Elonzo and Gladys Carpenter Sides
Sam is survived by 2 children Samantha Sides and Sammy Sides; sister Connie Clatt and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sam is preceded in death by his Parents and one brother Thomas Keith Sides.
Over the years he worked a variety of odd jobs for Virgil Lackey. Many in the community knew Sam, because most days he could be found walking around town, most recently pushing his walker with his bags hanging on the sides. Over the years I know many tried to help Sam out in his life, sometimes he would try to change things for a while but eventually he would be back out and about town doing it his way. I know Sam appreciated the help the community gave him and when someone stopped to talk to him, he was a very nice man with beautiful eyes, eyes that maybe shone some of the troubles in his life, but usually with a smile behind them none the less. He was a private kind of guy, who was often seen at Hardee's or Wendy's enjoying a cup of coffee or a Wendy's hamburger. Sometimes he liked to draw, write music, or play guitar. Sam also enjoyed watching the local parades, classic cars, putting together a puzzle, and was fond of wearing plaid shirts. Sam was a huge Chicago Bears fan.
