Richard Sides Obituary
Richard "Ricky" William Sides, 72, of Kannapolis, N.C., passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital.
A service to celebrate Ricky's life will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Rocky Ridge Church, officiated by Rev. Tam Wensil with burial will take place at Rocky Ridge Church Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Wilkinson Funeral Home.
Born November 21, 1953, in Mecklenburg County, Ricky was a son of the late Virginia Matthews Sides and William C. Sides.
In addition to his parents, Ricky was preceded in death by his son, Jason Michael Sides.
He spent his working life as a truck driver-independent by nature, hard-working, and proud of the road. Those closest to him will remember that driving wasn't just a job to Ricky; it was something he truly enjoyed.
Ricky was the kind of man who stayed busy and always had something going. He loved vehicles of all kinds and had a special passion for his diecast and model car collection, which became a true point of pride. Above all, he loved his family-especially his grandchildren, who brought him a joy that never faded.
He is survived by his children, Melissa Ann Sides of Kannapolis and Jonathan Sides (Brittany) of Kannapolis; his sister, Susan Swearingen (Gene) of Concord; three grandchildren, Michael Dale Sides, Brennen Sides, and Ashton Sides; and one great-grandson, Axel Sides.
He is also survived by extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
