On November 5th, 2025, Sam joined his heavenly family.

He was born February 18th, 1947, to Samuel L. Spears Sr. and Ernestene Spears, in Monahans, TX.

He spent his early childhood years in west Texas, and those summers, at his grandparent's home on the San Antonio River. He attended grade school in Pecos, Van Horn, and Orange, CA, before graduating from San Antonio's Robert E. Lee High School, Class of '65. Sam served as a member of the TX National Guard during the Vietnam War.

He found his calling as a businessman at an early age. In his teens, he joined his family working with the Tandy Corporation at Tandy Leather and Radio Shack. He became their international buyer when Tandy opened their Pier 1 Imports division. He opened Pier 1 stores throughout the U.S. and managed the downtown Austin location before being promoted to the southwest regional manager.

His parents retired from Tandy Corp. and moved to Kerrville, and in 1974 he joined them, and together, they opened Spears Mobile Homes. They worked as a family until January 1, 1982 when his parents retired and he fully took over the company. Concurrently, he married Martha Goss on January 9th, 1982 and together they operated Spears Homes, Inc. for another 43 years before selling their location and retiring. Spears Homes, Inc. provided and serviced the families in the Hill Country and throughout Texas for 50 years and was one of Sam's proudest accomplishments.

Sam along with his best bud, Fred Cannon, developed Windmill Communities in the early 1990's and continued to operate their retirement park, side by side, until Sam's passing.

He gave back to his community in many ways; coaching Little League baseball, basketball, supporting schools' and local organizations' fundraising events. He served on the Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show board, in which, he was elected to Auction Chairman for a number of years. He was a spokesman for the manufactured housing industry on roundtables, was one of the founders of The Lone Star Purchasing Group, served as a Texas Manufactured Housing Assoc. board member, officer, and elected Chairman, and spent time on the national MHI committee.

Sam had a passion for riding and racing motorcycles and Shelby Cobras. He loved operating his dozers, toter and dump trucks. Rhythm and Blues music spoke to his soul. Hunting, fishing, water and scuba diving, and traveling with his family and friends were his favorite pastimes. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful friend to many.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; son; daughters, Kimberly and Samantha Spears; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Ida Goss; brother-in-law, Robert Goss; sister-in-law, Nancy Spears; nieces, nephews, other extended family, past employees and many friends, including his late years' guardian cats.

Services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, with burial to follow at Brown Goss Cemetery.

The family would like to thank: Dr. Klaus Schroeder along with Peterson Home/Palliative/Hospice Care's nurses and care team for all their help and the many family and friend's prayers and support.

Donations may be made to the Brown Goss Cemetery, 122 Doris Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028, Peterson Hospice, 250 Cully Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028 or to one's choice.
