In Loving Memory Of Samuel Leon Stevens

Samuel Leon Stevens was born in Vicksburg, Miss, on September the 15 th 1935 to the late Josephine Burn and Tom Stevens. He was the sixth child born to this union. His mother died when he was six years of age and his devoted aunt, Savannah McCorkle, lovingly embraced him, ensuring he was cared for and nurtured. There, he grew under her guidance, receiving his education through Chicago's public schools. Later Samuel proudly served his country in the United States Army infantry, achieving the rank of Specialist during his honorable service. His dedication to his role exemplified the values of discipline, perseverance, and leadership that guided his life.

Upon completing his military service, Samuel returned home, he married Ernestine Robinson, to this union was born three wonderful children, Samuel Leon Stevens Jr, Jo-Ann Stevens Vass, Mable Louise Stevens, he found immense joy when he was with his family. Ernestine and Sam continued to enjoy and cherish their friendship until his passing.

Samuel L. Stevens and Ruby E. Crenshaw were joined in Holy Matrimony May15th 1965 during their 20+ year marriage was born Angela Stevens Livingston, and stepdaughter Tameka Stevens. Ruby preceded Samuel in death but they always remain friends.

Samuel worked at Augustana Hospital and also at Lutheran General Hospital as night supervisor in the public safety department until his retirement. Samuel met two special friends who shared his life, Sandra Case, and Diane Novak. Sandy Case who dad spent many years and help raised her children Nicky, Maxine, and Max whom dad held a special place for in his heart. Sandra Case superseded him in death and Diane who is a special friend who stood by him through many years of companionship and support.

Samuel is survived by his former wife Ernestine Stevens and his children Sam Jr., Jo-Ann, Mable and Angie, stepdaughter Tameka. Samuel also has a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Samuel's nephew Charles Jimmy Stevens, and Alonzo Stevens and sister Dawn were among his dearest family members, sharing many cherished moments together. He is also survived by a host of nieces, and cousins who treasured his warmth, wisdom, and loving presence.

Samuel was preceded in death by his siblings Leila Mae Deyamport, Beatrice Wince, Eugene Stevens, Roosevelt Stevens, and Willie Stevens. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his remarkable communication skills, and his kindness toward others. Samuel valued trust deeply and instilled it's importance in everyone around him. His gentle spirit, unwavering resilience, steadfast character, and vibrant personality will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.

"To provide for those who grieve … a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair" (Isaiah 61:3).

Daughter Jo-Ann shares this heartfelt tribute: "Though you have left this world, Dad, your laughter, and loving spirit will forever remain in my heart."

Daughter Angela shares this tribute "I now have two very special loves whose physical presence is no more, but they still live on in me".
