Obituary

Samuel David Thompson, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on September 10, 2025, at the age of 100.

Born and raised in Greenback, Tennessee, Samuel embodied the values of service, devotion, and hard work from an early age. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged on April 21, 1944. His commitment to service didn't end there-it became the foundation of a life spent serving the Lord, his family, and his community.

On June 4, 1950, Samuel married Wilma Bernice George, the love of his life, with whom he shared 65 beautiful years. He cared for her with tenderness and devotion until her passing in 2015, a testament to the depth of his love and loyalty.

A skilled carpenter and home builder, Samuel not only built homes for others-he built his own with his own hands, crafting spaces filled with warmth and integrity. He later enjoyed a 32-year career with American Airlines, retiring in 1985. Yet retirement never slowed him down.

An ordained deacon, Samuel's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He drove himself to church every Sunday and Wednesday, maintained his own yard, paid his own bills, and continued working with the same vigor that defined his youth. Even at 100 years old, he could be found on the roof making repairs, climbing ladders, and politely ignoring the pleas of family and friends to take it easy.

Samuel's life was a living sermon-one of humility, perseverance, and grace. He leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Samuel was preceded by parents, James Hugh and Bessie Thompson; wife Wilma Bernice; son Mark David; brothers Leon Taylor, James, Walter, sister June; and a host of in-laws.

Samuel leaves behind sons Michael Samuel and Larry George; grandchildren Michael David (Deborah) and Erica (Donyea) Warren; great grandchildren Jeremiah, Bethany, Savannah; and, a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
