Samuel Vanderheide, 78, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Boardman Lake Glens in Traverse City. He was born on June 4, 1945, in Traverse City, the son of Sieblo and Helen (Meeuwsen) Vanderheide.

Sam was a long-time resident of Charlevoix; he raised his family there, worked at the Consumers Energy Nuclear Plant, and made a lasting impact on the community.  He was a heavily involved member of the Charlevoix Community Reformed Church, taking on many different roles over the years, including that of a Deacon.  He had a strong desire to help others, and did so in a variety of ways, but most will remember seeing him selling raffle tickets during the Venetian Festival to raise money for MS.  In his free time, he enjoyed hunting for deer and bear, fishing, and spending summer days cruising around Lake Charlevoix on his boat with his beloved wife, Julaine.

Sam is survived by his children, Brett (Emily) Vanderheide and Heidi Wilkinson, grandson, Owen Wilkinson, brothers, Dave (Sue) Vanderheide and Ken (Barb) Vanderheide, brothers-in-law, Tom (Cheryl) Mansen and Jim (Cindy) Mansen, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his dear wife of 50 years, Julaine Vandeheide.

Funeral services with Military Honors, will be held Tuesday, March 19th at 2 p.m. at the Community Reformed Church of Charlevoix with Pastor Chip Sauer officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163, or Community Reformed Church, 109 Elm Street, Charlevoix, 49720 or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, PO BOX 4777. New York, New York, 10163.
