Abbott, Sandra
ALBANY - Sandra Elaine Abbott, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday night, October 30, 2025. The daughter of Oscar and Alix (MacKay) Norris. She grew up in Albany and spent her summers at Lake Luzerne. She graduated from Albany High School in 1960.
For several years after high school, she embarked on several different careers, including a nurse's aide, pediatric dental assistant, as well as a bank teller. Sandra also enjoyed a career in modeling. In 1961, she was selected to the Albany Tulip Queen court, which helped boost her modeling career.
In November of 1967, Sandra married Ronald Abbott. They had one son, and in the mid 70s, moved from Albany to Colonie, where they raised their son and grew their life together. They had a loving marriage of 50 years, until Ronald's passing in 2017. Sandy worked parttime in the family business, American Auto & Plate Glass, alongside her husband and son.
Sandy spent most every weekend at their home in Lake George. It was there where she loved swimming, boating and cooking the infamous "Saturday night dinners." She loved to sit by the lake and read as many books as she could, sitting in the sunshine with the waves crashing near her feet…we sometimes called it the "Diamond Point Library." She loved entertaining friends and family, and would welcome them for special holiday parties during both the summertime and winter. Whether in Lake George or Colonie, she seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew her. She was gregarious, and would spark a lively and fun conversation with almost anyone she met. She was beloved by everyone throughout the area for her kindness, down-to-earth nature, and sense of fun and adventure.
Sandy loved her beautiful German Shepherds, Bear and Czar. They never left her side, and they went through life as a team, no matter if she was on land, in the boat or on the plane, taking trips to see Scott in college. She loved her cats, Spooky and Buddy. Sandra's love of animals, big and small, was evident starting in her childhood. She loved to ride horses, and her passion for riding brought her to a point of owning quarter horses from the late 70s until just a few years ago. Her first horse, Long Shadow Shawn, was an incredibly large Western Quarter horse. She kept the horse at her lifelong friend, Diane Foley's barn, where the two of them enjoyed riding together for many decades.
Wintertime did not cut short her outdoor fun. Skiing was a big part of the family activities. Sandy enjoyed many vacations to Aspen, Colorado, as well as New York and Vermont, with her family and many friends.
Later in life, Sandy found love and companionship with a longtime friend, Lenny Bullinger. Together they enjoyed dinners out with friends, Sunday drives in the Adirondacks and relaxing on the porch looking out over the Lake.
Sandy is survived by her son, Scott R. Abbott; grandson, Kyle D. Abbott; daughter-in-law, Marnie M. Abbott; stepdaughter, Heidi Cerosky; and step-grandson and step-granddaughter, Corey and Carly Cerosky.
