Sandra Alfieris Obituary

Visit the Cremation Society of New Hampshire - Manchester website to view the full obituary.

Sandra Fiermonti Alfieris, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away peacefully on August 30th, 2025, after a period of declining health.

Sandra was born in New Brunswick, NJ in 1939 to her loving parents, Thomas and Muriel Fiermonti. Sandra, always the overachiever, graduated as a top student in her high school class and was very proud of her status as a member of the NJ All State Chorus.

After graduation Sandra married her high school sweetheart, Richard Chergey in 1957 and they welcomed their sons, Rick and Tom and built a life in East Brunswick, NJ.

She began her career at Carter- Wallace-Inc. as an indispensable executive assistant and remained there as the integral right-hand person until she retired after 25 years of devoted service.

Sandra was divorced and married her second husband, Steve Alfieris. They moved to South River, NJ in 1971 where she raised the boys and became their number 1 sports fan, never missing a basketball or football game.

Upon Sandra’s retirement in 1990, she relocated to Bow, NH, which was where her second career and life’s calling began as the best Grandmother to her 6 grandchildren. She was an angel of mercy to her sons and daughters-in-laws and stepped in to help with whatever was needed anytime and anywhere.

“Mommom’s” house on Longview Drive was the destination and HUB for her grandchildren and all their friends, who all know her as Mommom. Her door was always open for them to stop by every day for prepared snacks, talk about the day, have a hug, laugh and offer an encouraging word. Sandra never missed any event in the lives of the Grandkids. She was loud and proud (maybe too much!) at every event. She never missed documenting their first day of school with pictures at the bus stop and on the school bus or the parking lot at school (much to the embarrassment of the cool teenagers).

Sandra’s devotion to family extended to her 5 Great Grand Children, who adored her. They are so blessed to have known her.

Sandra was the life of every party, a kind and loving friend to all. She loved to garden, cook, travel, read, and walk her best friend, Mr. Curly the dog. We will miss her loud and contagious New Jersey laugh.

Sandra is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, Rick & Joanne Chergey of Bow, Tom and MaryAnn Chergey of Amherst, her Grandchildren, Gina Chergey of Cliffside Park, NJ, Michael & Michelle Chergey of Bedford, Paul Chergey of Nashua, Brian and Mikayla Chergey of Manchester, Kelly and Tom Kerr of Marshfield MA, and Jillian Chergey of Quincy MA, and her sister, Wendi and Dan Pearson of Social Circle, GA.

A Memorial Mass will be held in the Chapel at Mount Carmel Rehabilitation & Nursing Home, 235 Myrtle Street, Manchester NH on September 5, 2025, at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be in her memory to The Elliot VNA- Hospice , 1070 Holt Avenue, Manchester, NH 03109 - https://www.manchestervna.org/give-a-gift or AFTD – The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, 2700 Horizon Drive, Suite 120, King of Prussia, Pa. 19406 - https://www.theaftd.org/get-involved/ways-to-give/
