Sandra Ann Battefeld

Sandra "Sandy" A. Battefeld, 71, of Meredosia, Illinois, passed away September 23, 2025. She was born August 24, 1954, the daughter of James and Wanda (Magelitz) Hendricks. She married James Battefeld on April 22, 1972, and he preceded her in death on September 22, 2017.

Sandy is survived by her daughters, Susan (Mark) Lipcaman of Rushville, Kimberly (Chris) Smith of Meredosia, her grandsons, Kale and Dane Ridings, both of Meredosia, her sister, Sharon Evans of Bluffs, and her dear friend Tom Sturgeon of Bluffs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Vicki Shaw.

Sandy was a 1972 graduate of Bluffs High School, and spent 32 years working at Meredosia Chambersburg Schools, spending many of those years as elementary librarian, sharing her love of reading with the kids. She was appointed to the M-C Valley Public Library District in 2012 and served as treasurer. Sandy enjoyed doing puzzle books, reading, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. When Jim was alive, they enjoyed day trips to gambling boats. Sandy will always be remembered for her sense of humor and infectious laugh.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville from 5-7 PM. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11 AM at Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia. Memorial donations may be left to Meredosia-Bluffs Volunteer Rescue Squad or The Ronald McDonald House. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
