Sandra Borg

Sandra Reta Rust Borg, 78, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and former longtime elementary school teacher in Marquette, Michigan passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 following a seven month battle with cancer.
Sandy was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on April 10, 1944, the youngest of three girls of the late Edward and Elva Rust. She was raised in the Soo, and spent weekends in her youth on the back bay of Brimley with family and friends. Sandy was a 1962 graduate of Sault High School and always kept in touch with classmates and enjoyed helping with class reunions. Following high school she attended Michigan Tech Sault Branch (now Lake Superior State University) before obtaining her bachelor's degree in education from Central Michigan University.
Being an elementary teacher always brought Sandy joy. She spent the majority of her career teaching elementary education in Marquette, Michigan. She was proud to have taught at Whitman Elementary, Vandenboom Elementary, and Superior Hills Elementary before ending her almost 30 year career working with the Eastern Upper Peninsula School District, working as a language arts consultant, working with other teachers. She was a true teacher at heart, and deep down always missed the excitement of the classroom, watching children learn and remember new things, and always enjoyed seeing them grow throughout the school year.
In her free time, Sandy enjoyed volunteering her time helping at church, being with friends, and finding time to be near the water. Whether it was a peaceful drive around Presque Isle in Marquette after a long day, or sitting on the back bay of Brimley, watching the freighters coming in to the Soo Locks, being near the water brought her a sense of peace. She always loved being "Up North" and was proud to call herself a Yooper. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, former students and colleagues, and all those who crossed her path, as Sandy's outlook on life was always positive and respectful of other people. She was a shining light that brightened the path of others.
Loving mother of Andrew Borg, Gary Borg (Calli), and Becky Morrison (Mike). Proud grandmother of Eliana Borg, Kara Morrison, and Caleb Morrison. Dear sister of Joan Rust and the late Patricia Ladd. Devoted aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home 4951 M-129 Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 on Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 12:00pm until the time of a Sharing of Memories funeral service at 2:00pm where friends are encouraged to share a brief memory.
Interment will be held privately at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
