Sandra Bowman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services on Jan. 24, 2026.
Sandra Kay Bowman finished her mortal journey on January 22, 2026, at her home after a long and courageous battle with several serious health problems including cancer. Sandy was born March 29, 1959 at Sutton, WV to Robert "Bob" Schoolcraft and Maxine Lee Schoolcraft. Both parents preceded her in death. Her grandparents, aunts, uncles, several cousins, and close friend Shawn Dolan also preceded her in death. Sandy is survived by her two cherished daughters, Vanessa Baughman (Justin) of Verona, VA and Nichole Nichols (Scott) of Weston, WV; her sister Carol White (Frank) of near Weston; five grandchildren: Nova Baughman (Shane), Claira & Declan Schroeder, Logan and Saphire Zickefoose; nephews Joseph and Travis White; niece Jessica Brannum; special cousins David Schoolcraft, Don Schoolcraft, and Vickie Bailey; and her beloved dog Bella. Also surviving is the father of her children, Howard Nichols.

Sandy had a tender heart for all animals, especially Pit Bulls. She saw the good in people and always looked at them inwardly, not at their outward appearance. She was a true and loyal friend to many and became like family to several residents at the Weston Arbors. Sandy was blessed with a forgiving heart. She loved her cousins and always looked forward to the Schoolcraft and Lee reunions each July. Sandy's life was not easy, yet she always had a smile and good attitude toward the trials she had to endure. Sandy was a CNA and spent many years caring for others. Her most recent job was a 911 operator in Upshur County. She loved that job, which enabled her to help others in need. She received the Stork award for talking someone through a home birth. She enjoyed getting to know the police officers. Sandy had a pleasant phone voice that was very calming for those who called in with a problem. Sandy loved the Lord, and her faith was strong. Like Paul, she could say, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I

have kept the faith." She faced her end with courage and peace and looked forward to the grand reunion that she is now enjoying.

The family is grateful for the excellent care Nichole gave to her mother and recognize how difficult it was for her to watch Sandy's health decline. The family appreciates Scott's help as well. The family wishes to thank her helper, Roberta Hefner, and Hospice for their good care.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 PM, at which time a funeral service will begin with the Rev. Jerry Lee, a cousin, officiating. Due to inclement weather, interment will be held privately at a later date in the Schoolcraft Family Cemetery at Tague, Braxton County, WV, where Sandy will be laid to rest alongside her parents.
