Marengo- Sandra L. Brecht was born June 15, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Lester and Margaret (Mackey) Cach. She graduated from Jefferson Highschool in 1958. She was united in marriage to Ronald Brecht Sr. on August 1, 1959, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Sandra enjoyed spending time with her family, baking pies and cookies, playing cards and going to casinos. Sandra passed away Thursday, January 1, 2026 at her home at the age of 85 years old.
Sandra is survived by her two children; a son Ronald (Michelle) Brecht of Walford; a daughter Della (Late Husband Garth)Cooney of Marengo. Seven grandchildren Hunter (Raelynn) Brecht of Norway, Haley (Shane) Farr of Amana, Jason (Kayla) Cooney of Manchester, Sara (Darryl) Weidner of Marion, late Chad Cooney (Kaylynn) of Madison, SD, Brandon (Jennica) Jordan of Shellsburg and Ashley (Blake) Michaelsen of Ankeny. Fourteen great grandchildren; Addison, Paislee, Nathan, Sammy, Nolan, Sydney, Leighton, Weston, Kendall, Connor, Noah, Jude, Sophie and Kash. A brother Dennis Cach and sister-in-law June Cach. Her furry friend Snoopy.
She is preceded by her parents, husband, son in law Garth Cooney, grandson Chad Cooney, a brother John Cach
Private Family Services will be held Monday, January 5, 2026. In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established Safe Haven of Iowa County. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Marengo is caring for Sandra and her family. Messages can be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
