Sandra Kaye Brower, affectionately known as Sandy, age 82, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025. She was born in Hohenwald, Tennessee on March 15, 1943, to the late John Ellis Mathis Sr. and Mary Yokley Mathis. Sandy grew up on a farm in Columbia, Tennessee. She was second to the youngest of ten children.

Sandy graduated from Central High School in 1962. After graduation, she was the second person hired in the SunTrust Bank credit card department in downtown Nashville in 1962. That same year, she met her future husband, Steve Brower, who also worked at SunTrust Bank. Sandy worked for SunTrust Bank for thirty years.

Sandy and Steve were married in 1964 and lived in Bellevue, Tennessee. They bought their current home of 50+ years, moving to Hendersonville, Tennessee in 1973. Sandy was also a member of Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Sandy was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family. She had a heart for cats and cared for many over the years. She also loved to cook for her friends and family, almost as much as they loved eating her great food - her asparagus casserole was second to none!

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents John Ellis Mathis Sr. and Mary Yokley Mathis; her brothers John Ellis Mathis Jr., Bobby Mathis, Billy Mathis, Douglas Mathis, and Larry Mathis; and her sisters Jean Whitwell, Anne Taylor, Barbara Tutt, and Peggy Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-one years, Adrain “Steve” Brower Jr., her sister-in-law Carolyn Mathis, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home and Memory Gardens on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 12:00pm until the hour of service. The chapel service will begin at 2:00pm with burial to follow.
