Sandra Canavan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home on Aug. 19, 2024.
Sandra Lynn Canavan passed away August 10, 2024, one day before her 85th birthday. Sandra was born in Houston, Texas in 1939 to two identical twins, Pansy McVoy Lynn and Clifford Wilton Lynn. With strong family ties to Lexington and
Tanglewood, Sandra loved traveling on the weekends to "the country" with her parents, older sister Virginia and little brother Barry, to spend time with her many cousins and her Grammy Lynn, who milked cows and raised chickens on the family homestead well into her 90s.
Sandra graduated from San Jacinto High School, and while working at Humble Oil, met a poor boy from Boerne who played basketball for Rice University. By 1974, Bill, Sandra, and their two girls and two boys permanently left Houston for Bill's
hometown. Sandra embraced life in Boerne, and became very involved in supporting the Greyhounds, watching her daughter Dawn in the homecoming court, her daughter Cindy as a Varsity cheerleader, and boys Billy and Wade as Varsity football players. Friday night football games were a staple in the Canavan household for many years. During the season, the Canavan dinner table typically included the family as well as a coach and player or two. Sandra was known for her amazing chicken and rice, chocolate chip pancakes, cowboy eggs, and chicken fried backstrap. Her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners were truly feasts.
Sandra became a grandmother and single woman in 1989, embracing both with the same gusto and positivity as she did every hurdle in life. Being a grandmother was her calling, second only to motherhood. There was nothing more special to her
grandchildren than spending a weekend at Grammy's house. Sandra's creative talents were limitless, and she wrote that daydreaming was a favorite hobby. Sandra was an accomplished artist, managed the Antler's Restaurant, was an interior decorator at Diane Flack and Leonard Furniture, worked in real estate for Coldwell Banker Realty, opened Crystals and Tin Art Gallery, produced two cookbooks with her best friends and was very involved in the Boerne art community. Sandra was a
Wednesday night Awana leader, working with children at First Baptist Church for many years.
Sandra is survived by daughters Dawn Canavan Ortega and Lucinda Lynn Canavan, and sons William Edward Canavan Jr. (Mary) and Wade Everett Canavan; grandchildren Kathryn Nicole, Emery Canavan Dugas, Wyatt Elliot Canavan, Katherine
Mantz Berry, Alec Rodolfo Ortega, Kelsey Canavan Mantz, Nicolas Carlo Ortega, Kyla Elise Green, Wade Evan Canavan and Sunny Mikayla Canavan; six great-grandchildren; her brother Barry Wilton Lynn and numerous beloved friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children and her sister Virginia Lynn Eason.
Sandra's family and friends will miss her greatly, but are comforted by the unconditional love she gave, the multitude of memories they have, knowing Sandra lived each day to its very fullest, and a belief that she has joined her heavenly Father.

I knew Sandra from real estate, but I first met her at Curves. It was a workout place for just women. She would come with Judy Filingery. They would come early in the morning and were just a hoot. They would laugh and cut up the whole time they were working out. She had a wonderful sense of humor and I believe a very kind heart to her clients. I am sure she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
