Sandra Coffey Obituary

Published by Behr's Funeral Home on Jun. 19, 2017.
Sandra L. Coffey, age 68, of Dubuque, was called home peacefully at 1:47 a.m., on Monday, June 19, 2017, at home, surrounded by her loving family. To celebrate Sandra's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, Dubuque, Iowa. Sandra was born on May 20, 1949, in Blue Island, Illinois, daughter of Wilbur "Bud" and Elizabeth "Betty" (Phillips) Coffey. Sandra was always willing to embrace each day to it's fullest. Work was a necessity, but living life was surely a requirement. Sandra could generally be found with a naturally beautiful smile on her face; whether she was spending time with her dearly adored family and friends, hanging out at the casino, or even reminiscing about all of the relaxing rides she shared with her favorite horse, Shari. Sandra has spent many quality weekend evenings socializing with friends at the Town Clock, or the nearest venue to catch a little live music whenever possible. Sadly, today we discover a new reality where Sandra's electric smile will only remain as a sweet memory for those who knew and loved her. Her illness progressed much quicker than we ever imagined over these past few weeks, but we know that the memories of the wind blowing through her hair on a perfect convertible ride day will hold us through until we are all reunited with Sandra once again. Those left to cherish Sandra's memory include her 2 children, Nichole Watt, Cedar Falls, IA and James Bailey III, Manhattan, IL; her granddaughter, Rylee Pierce; her siblings, John (Teresa) Coffey, Peosta, IA, Kevin (Pam) Coffey, North Judson, IN, Jim Coffey, Chicago, IL, Diane Chicoine, Worth, IL and Pat (Janet) Coffey, Chicago, IL; and also many dear friends she has lovingly welcomed into her life over the years. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents. A Sandra L. Coffey memorial fund has been established. Sandra's family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of Dubuque for all of their wonderful and compassionate care of Sandra and her family.

I have so many memories I cant even tell them all. I was a close friend of Nicholes growing up and I remember when they first moved to town. Sandy loved to have a clean house and her house was always spotless and smelled like pinesol. I loved it! I remember riding in her intrepid that she loved so much and she always had giant white sunglasses. Many memories were made horseback riding with her and Nichole. In fact, pretty sure I spent a total of 2 entire summers living with them. (not officially but I was always there and Sandy was always hauling me and my sister around with Nichole.)

So saddened to hear about her passing and those memories are some that I still talk about. She gave me a gift-horses. If it weren't for her inviting, taking me, and sharing her horses with me, I wouldn't have the riding skills I have now or the memories.

All the memories we shared from the time we were small children. From our grammer school graduation, to sock hops, to prom, to our high school graduation, to our wedding day when you were my maid of honor and I was yours. We had a friendship that time transends. I will cherish those memories always. Best friends forever, Patti Assmus
