Sandra Annette Cornwell

Mrs. Sandra Annette Steele Cornwell, age 80, of LaGrange, passed away on March 20, 2026 at Emory University Hospital. Mrs. Cornwell was born on June 8, 1945 in Centralhatchee, Georgia to the late Isaiah Steel and Tommie Lou Vaughn Steele. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Doyal Smith, second husband, Hugh Cornwell, siblings, Aliska Baker and James Steele, and two infant siblings, Tommie Melinda Steele and Scott Steele.

Survivors include her son, Kevin Smith (Monica); daughters, Sandra "Sandy" Smith (Lane) and Deborah Fay Massengale (Dwayne); siblings, Tom and Angie Steele, Jack and Jo Steele, Elaine and Eddie Nave and Jennifer K. Smith; grandchildren, Jessica Stafford (Mitch), Summer Edwards (Nick), Christopher Smith, Jonathan Smith, Amy Cotton, Wendy Johnson, Robin Johnson, Sarah Smith, Morgan Smith and Steele Smith; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mrs. Cornwell worked for many years at Playtex and later retired from NOK, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She was a faithful member of Baptist Tabernacle, where she loved serving others. She volunteered in the church food pantry and was an active member of the Lighthouse Keepers senior group. Mrs. Cornwell enjoyed spending time with her family, helping others whenever she could, and living a life centered on faith, love, and service to those around her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her devotion to her family, and her willingness to always put others first.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Baptist Tabernacle with Pastor Jimmy McMillian officiating. Interment to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends on Sunday evening at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 pm.
