Rose Cornwell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elliott Mortuary & Crematory - Hutchinson on Mar. 16, 2026.
Rose L. Cornwell, 69, of Hutchinson, died March 12, 2026, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born May 25, 1956, in Munich, Germany, to Wilbur and Martha (Maier) Wiens.

Rose graduated from Hutchinson High School and took classes at Salt City Business School. She worked as an accountant for H&R Block and Kroger, and she also served as co-secretary at First Baptist Church. Rose had a real love for numbers and truly enjoyed her work.

Rose also loved driving a school bus and did so for many years with USD 313. She had a great memory and a caring spirit, and-true extrovert that she was-she enjoyed being around people. She was often called a social butterfly.

Rose loved her family dearly and spoiled her grandchildren. They called her the "best grandma ever," and they especially loved playing bingo with her and eating her homemade cookies.

On August 23, 1975, Rose married Philip Cornwell. They shared nearly 51 beautiful years of marriage together before her death.

Rose is survived by: beloved husband, Philip Cornwell of Hutchinson; daughters, Rachel (Kevin) Frymire of Newton, Rebecca Bevilacqua of Hutchinson, and Kristi Shields of Hutchinson; sister, Sharon (Tim) Surface of Great Bend; adored grandchildren, Colson (Fiona) Frymire, Seth Frymire, Kali Frymire, Gage Pederson, Gunner Pederson, and Brittani Shields; and one great-grandson, Jensen Shields.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Connor Frymire.

Cremation has taken place.

Celebration of Life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 800 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS with Pastor Austin officiating. Burial will follow in North Inman Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main Hutchinson, KS 67501.
