Sandra Ann Courtney, passed away peacefully at Whatcom Hospice House December 5, 2025, at the age of 71. Sandy was born May 25, 1954, in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. She was raised by her grandparents Marvin and Lula (Duim) Courtney on the family farm located on East Wiser Lake Road that her great grandparents homesteaded in 1888.
In1980 Sandy was one of the first residents to move into the newly built Cascade Christian Home in Lynden, WA. There she learned independent life skills and moved into her own apartment in Lynden and eventually into Bellingham with her beloved cousin Marcia Duim. Sandy had numerous jobs over the years with Allsop, Arc of Whatcom County, Western Washington University Marriott Food Service and Kushan Vocational Services.
Sandy loved attending Cornwall Church and was baptized there by Pastor Bob Marvel. Over the years she cared for many bunnies and cats. She loved everything Disney, went to all the movies and Disneyland. She was a collector of Beanie Babies, horses and dolls.
Sandy had many cherished friends and family members. Sandy is survived by her brother Brian Courtney of California, numerous cousins and her cat Princess.
Sandy was preceded in death by her grandparents Marvin and Lula (Duim) Courtney and her father, Leslie Marvin Courtney.
A celebration of her life will take place on Sandy's Birthday Monday, May 25, 2026, at 4PM Greenwood Cemetery 605 E Wiser Lake across from the homestead she grew up on. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend.
Memorials are suggested to Cascade Christian Home or Whatcom Hospice House.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
