Sandra DeLauter Obituary

Sandra Lee "Sandy" DeLauter

March 21, 1945 - April 10, 2025

State College, Pennsylvania - Sandra Lee "Sandy" DeLauter, a beacon of love, strength, and generosity, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in her beloved hometown of State College, PA.

Born on March 21, 1945, Sandy's life was a beautiful reflection of kindness, resilience, and the unwavering devotion she held for her family, friends, and community.

Sandy was the daughter of the late Martha and Richard Kephart and grew up surrounded by a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her siblings Jean Tressler (Gene), Carol Williams (Sam), and Ricky Kephart. She is survived by her sisters Vicki Kephart, Kathy (Rich) Barrickman, and her brother Jeff (Brenda) Kephart.

She is also survived by her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Joseph H. DeLauter. Sandy was a loving and supportive wife, standing proudly by Joe's side throughout his military career. Together, they shared many adventures living and traveling across the United States, as well as in Okinawa and Taiwan, creating memories that became treasured stories passed on to future generations.

Sandy was the proud and loving mother of Christine M. Krasnansky (Ron) and Joseph H. DeLauter II (Christine), and the cherished Nana of Chloe and Lauren Krasnansky, who were the light of her life. Her family was her greatest joy, and every moment spent with them was filled with laughter and love.

A 1963 graduate of State College Area High School, Sandy went on to work at Penn State University. She began her career as a department secretary in the Biochemistry Department and then worked and retired from the College of Science as the secretary to the Assistant Dean. Her warmth, professionalism, and unshakable work ethic left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with her.

A true Penn Stater, Sandy was a lifelong and passionate supporter of Penn State sports. Whether cheering in the stands or following from home, she was an enthusiastic fan of football, ice hockey, wrestling, and basketball.

Sandy's love for gardening, reading, and beach vacations to Kure Beach, NC, brought her a sense of peace and joy. Her appreciation for the simple, beautiful moments in life was infectious. She found joy in everyday things and made those around her feel special just by being herself.

In her final years, Sandy faced the challenges of Lewy Body dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, with courage and strength. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated caregivers who provided Sandy with comfort and compassion over the years. Special thanks to the Home Instead team, especially Karen, who helped Sandy for several years, the staff at the Atrium, and to the UPMC Hospice team for their support during Sandy's final months.

We remember Sandy as a woman who lived with grace, loved without limits, and left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her legacy of warmth, courage, and love will forever remain in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.

As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well lived-one full of purpose and passion. Sandy will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered, always.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.

A church service will follow on Wednesday, April 30, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave., State College with Father Jeffrey Packard officiating.

Interment will take place at Pine Hall Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in State College, The Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of your choice, in honor of Sandy's generous and compassionate spirit.
