Sandy Forst lost her battle with neuroendocrine cancer on September 10, 2025. Sandy was born on Halloween day, 1954, in Chicago, IL to James and Clara Scanlan. She grew up in Highland Park, IL and attended Ravinia Elementary, Edgewood Jr. High and Highland Park High School.

She spent the majority of her career in the graphics arts industry. She started her career at Singer Printing in Highland Park, IL and ended her graphics career at Black Dot in Crystal Lake, IL. While she held various printing jobs, she excelled at being a typesetter/trouble shooter.

In 2003, she relocated to Bakersfield to be closer to her brother and sister. There she began her career as a clerk with the Kern County Sheriff's office. She worked in many departments, including training, records and reports. She retired in 2017.

Outside of work, her hobbies included making beautiful stuffed animals, ceramic dolls and rescuing special-needs dogs. She was a tireless volunteer for all sorts of animal rescue non-profits. When she could no longer house the special-needs dogs, she was the first to volunteer transport up or down the valley.

She is survived by her sons, Torin Forst (Heather) of Kenosha, WI and Dane Forst of Portland, OR, her brother Tim Scanlan of Bakersfield, sister Janice Scanlan of Bakersfield and innumerable nieces and nephews.

Per her wishes, no services or memorials are planned, but donations in Sandy's name can be made to any animal shelter or rescue in Kern County.
