In Loving Memory of Sandy

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sandy Freewalt on September 21, 2025. Sandy was born in Chicago, and her family, home, and traditions were always the heart of her life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Ken. With a boundless capacity for connection, Sandy was a beloved figure to all who knew her. Her story is not one of a single lifetime, but of countless shared moments. She had a unique gift for bringing people together, whether around a warm table with a home cooked meal or in a conversation.

She was the beloved mother of three children Rich (Sue), Kim (Dan) Hansen and Kurt (Caren), and grandmother of 5, Nicole (Jorge), Lindsay, Jeremy, Dani and Lexi, who brought her immense joy. She is survived by her siblings Mark (Deb) Czubak, Cece (Chuck) Hamm, and Laurie (Bob) McAnelly, sister-in-law, Barb Kearns and brother-in-law Arthur Freewalt. Aunt Sandy enjoyed her time with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Family wasn't just important to Sandy-it was everything. Her famous cookie trays were legendary among family and friends, and the many Christmas Eve gatherings at her home in Bristol were filled with love, laughter, warmth, and memories that will be treasured forever.

Sandy had a deep love for gardening, finding peace, beauty, and connection in tending to flowers and green things. She was also a lifelong fan of Disney, whose stories and Magic Kingdom adventures she treasured. Some of her happiest times were spent in Wisconsin Dells, where she made lasting memories with her husband Ken and loved ones.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 2 P.M.-5 P.M. when a liturgical wake service will be held at The Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora, IL 60506.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor her memory by sharing a cookie recipe, planting a favorite flower, or gathering with family as she always loved.

Though she has passed from this world, Sandy's spirit lives on in the love she sowed, the traditions she built, and in every kind word, every sweet treat, and every family moment that echoes her presence.
