Sandra Rae Hill, 88, of Jacksonville and formerly of Palatka, passed from this life on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Westminster Woods on Julington Creek following an extended illness.
She was a native of West Frankfort, Illinois, and was a teacher in the public school system in Illinois where she taught for 25 years. Sandra and her husband Jack moved to Palatka in 1996 and resided there until 2019 when they moved to Jacksonville until Jack's passing in 2020. Sandra then returned to Illinois for a year before returning to reside in Jacksonville. Sandra had been a member of the College Road Church of Christ in Palatka. Prior to moving to Palatka, Sandra was a long-time member of First Christian Church of West Frankfort. She had also volunteered at the Public Library in Palatka.In her leisure time, Sandra was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jackie Dean "Jack" Hill; 2 great-grandchildren, Lacey Petkas and Aidan Almodovar; and a son-in-law, Jim Petkas.
Sandra is survived by 2 daughters, Jackie Sneddon (Gary) of Jacksonville and Debbie Petkas of West Frankfort, IL; a sister, Judy Collins of West Frankfort, IL; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Petkas (Patty), Brooke Petkas, Heather Almodovar (Luis) and Matthew Sneddon; 5 great-grandchildren, Shalee Rich, Seth Petkas, Wyley Petkas, Jaelyn Almodovar and Julian Almodovar; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Slade Rich and Ryett Rich.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00p.m. November 15, 2025 in Tower Heights Cemetery - West Frankfort, Illinois with Elder Tim Grider officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery prior to the service.
