Sandra "Sandi" Jayne Hoger (Ignatz), 82, of
Dowagiac, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
She was born on March 28, 1943, in Constantine, Michigan, to Beaulah Berger and Wayne Ignatz. Sandi grew up in White Pigeon and was a proud graduate of White Pigeon High School.
Sandi was known by her family and friends as someone truly special-kind-hearted, generous, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Throughout her life, she was deeply committed to her community, volunteering with the Dowagiac First United Methodist Church, Cass County Council on Aging, Ascension Borgess-Lee Hospital, Action Ministries Center, Dowagiac Public Schools, and many other local organizations.
A lifelong bridge enthusiast, Sandi found joy and connection in the many bridge groups she participated in. Her favorite times were spent playing with a close-knit circle of friends who traveled together, shared countless meals, supported one another, and always made room for laughter.
A trivia whiz, Sandi amazed everyone with her quick recall and deep knowledge of history and general facts-her family often joked she would've made the perfect Jeopardy! contestant. During game nights, everyone hoped to be her partner.
Her greatest devotion was to her grandchildren-Rachel, Cooper, and Erica-whom she supported wholeheartedly in their education and life pursuits. She provided them with unwavering encouragement, love, and pride.
A faithful member of the Dowagiac First United Methodist Church since 1976, Sandi served on and led numerous committees, played in the bell choir, and was actively involved in youth mission trip fundraisers and the church's Run for the Hungry, supporting mission work in Haiti.
Professionally, Sandi dedicated 25 years to the Cass County Council on Aging, where she was deeply respected and beloved by colleagues. Her commitment to helping seniors extended beyond her job, often enlisting family and friends to support events and activities she believed in.
Sandi will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her light and love will continue to shine, and we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Heather-undoubtedly having a jolly good time together.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Ignatz (Jan); children Jill (Van) Hunsberger, Brad Hoger (Karrie Jo), and Wendy Hoger-Bond (Randy); and grandchildren Rachel Hunsberger, Cooper Nash, and Erica Nash. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Heather (Tobin) Nash, and her parents, Beaulah Berger and Wayne Ignatz.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Dowagiac Elks Lodge, 300 Riverside Drive,
Dowagiac, Michigan 49047.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dowagiac.
