Constance Lea Hoger

Constance Lea Hoger, 88, died in the Christian faith on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Generations at Applewood, Matteson, IL. Connie was born on May 12, 1936, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Lydia (Knorr) Dedert. She was brought into the Christian faith and made a child of God through Holy Baptism on July 26, 1936, at St. Paul E & R Church, Fowler, IL.
Connie was confirmed at Zion E & R Church in Ursa, IL on October 2, 1949, affirming her conviction in the Christian faith. The Scriptural text given to her was Genesis 15:1, "Fear not: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward." Connie graduated from Unity High School in Mendon, IL. She married Melvin Hoger on July 3, 1965, at Salem E & R Church in Quincy, IL. Connie was a banker and a village administrator. She took great pride in being the wife of a dairy and grain farmer. Her greatest joy came from being Grandma.
She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Ann (Todd) Chewning of Rockford, IL, her son James Melvin (Nadine) Hoger of Matteson, IL, son-in-law Michael (Julie) Poynter, Batavia, OH; five grandchildren Allyson (Josh) Bohlmann and Bradley Hoger, Amanda (fiancé Scott Treptow), Sarah and Paul Poynter, one great grandson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is sister Nancy Kindl, sister-in-law Marcia Dedert, and brother Richard (Barb) Dedert.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, by her daughter Rachel Lea Poynter, by her parents, one brother Donald Dedert, and brother-in-law Ralph Kindl. Connie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Matteson, and more recently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Matteson. She was an active church volunteer. The family would like to recognize and thank special family friend Paula Cassady. Paula's love, support and friendship cannot be measured.
Funeral services will be on Saturday March 15th at St. Paul Lutheran Church 6201 Vollmer Rd, Matteson, IL at 1:30PM, following a 12:00 -1:30PM visitation. Interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Richton Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lutheran Hour, St. Paul Lutheran Church - Matteson or to the donor's choice.
