Sandra Joan (Gorke) Johnson, age 85, of Minneapolis, MN entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Sandra was born on August 6, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN. A graduate of Minnehaha Academy and a life-long resident of Minneapolis, Sandra loved the Lord, her Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She shared that love of the Lord with her husband of 61 years, Lowell, and together, they raised two children: Juli (Tim) Wagner and Erick Johnson. They were blessed with beloved grandchildren: Megan (Seth), Nina, and Leif, and two great-grandsons, Luca and Odin. Sandra is also survived by a cousin, Jim (Nancy) Johnson, and his family. She leaves behind many cherished friends, from childhood and beyond.
With over 50 years spent in Bible Study Fellowship, thriving as both a participant and leader, Sandra lived for Jesus's role in the church and her family. Sweet and kind, with an unwavering devotion to her family, she was our guiding light. Blessed with the gift of hospitality, Sandra loved to entertain and spend time with family and friends. We were lucky to benefit from her baking and culinary skills. With her humorous remarks and easy laughter, she was endeared to many. Sandra was tiny, but mighty in spirit and character.
Sandra worked for many years in the labs at both Metropolitan Medical Center Hospital and later at United Hospital. She loved the interactions with both patients and co-workers.
The family would like to thank everyone for the phone calls, texts, visits, and prayers during Sandra's hospitalization and after. A special thank you to Phyllis Baltes for her morning visits and prayers and to Kim and Tom, neighbors of Sandra & Lowell, who provided rides, support, and meals.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Salem Covenant Church, 2655 5th Street N.W., New Brighton, MN with a memorial service following at 12:00 p.m. Livestreaming will be available at https://salem-covenant.church/, and a private internment to be held before the service. Memorials are preferred to Minnehaha Academy or Salem Covenant Church.
