Sandra Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 30, 2026.
Sandra May Johnson passed away on March 26, 2026, at Wolfeboro Bay Center in Wolfeboro, NH. Born on October 29, 1938, in Rochester, NH, Sandi lived in many different places as the daughter of a career army man. But she always loved returning to New Hampshire.

Sandi graduated high school in Kansas after returning from Austria, where her father was stationed for several years. She attended nursing school and was a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO where she met her husband, Donald Johnson, on a blind date. They married in 1962. They spent their life in Independence, MO, raising their daughter, Heather, until they retired to Wolfeboro, NH in 1996.

Sandi spent most of her adult life giving back to others through volunteer work. Throughout her years in Missouri, she volunteered at several organizations, but her greatest dedication was to the Ronald McDonald House. After several years of providing comfort to the families staying at the house, she served on the Board, helping further the important work that organization does.

Sandi always felt that retiring to Wolfeboro was "coming home," as she spent many summers in and around Wolfeboro growing up. Over the past 30 years, Sandi was an active community member volunteering and serving on the board of the Children's Center, President of Lord & Tailor (All Saints Church), and Co-Chair of Festival of Trees. One of her proudest moments was being named Wolfeboro's Citizen of the Year in 2013.

Sandra is survived by her daughter Heather (Karl) Barnhart and pre-deceased by a daughter, Roxanne, parents Enoch and Lillian Drew, and brothers Franklin and Thomas.

A celebration of Sandi's life will be held at All Saints Church on May 2, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
