Sandra Lea (Roy) Messer, age 70, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Accura Nursing Home-Marshalltown.
A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at 10:30 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, June 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Sandy will be laid to rest at Center School Cemetery in Marshalltown. Born Sandra Lea Roy on November 6, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Philip Oliver and Evelyn Irene (Lowry) Roy. Sandy started her schooling in the Clemons school district and graduated from Marshalltown High School with the Class of 1972. On March 5, 1982, Sandra married the love of her life, Larry Joe Messer, in Marshalltown. A loving and devoted homemaker, she always made sure her family was well taken care of. Sandy was a proud member of Marietta Clippers, Ridge Riders Saddle Club and Friendship Wagon Train. In her free time, she enjoyed riding horses, listening to music, watching movies, wrestling, NFL football, the Iowa Hawkeyes, bowling, crossword puzzles, and coloring books. She loved all things angels and more than anything else, enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Joe Messer; her children: Lori (Leslie) Delaney-Zellner, Amy (Mark) Delaney-Smothers, Angie Doiron and Clair (Gabby) Messer; her grandchildren: Brianna, Mayson, Kendall, Riley, Sawyer, Rachel, Carly, Caleigh, Jayden and Yvonne; two great-grandchildren; her siblings: Connie Adair, Claudia (Tim) Powers, Judy (Bill "Billy Boy") Roads and Steve (Elaine) Roy; brother-in-law, Lloyd Yocum and many nieces and nephews.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Evelyn Roy; her sister, Jeanette Yocum; four brothers-in-law: Jim Adair, John, Ed and Carl Messer; sister-in-law, Bonnie Haynes; mother-in-law, Anna Mae Black; father-in-law, Nonel Messer; her niece, Mary Andrews; and five nephews: Jimmy, John and Joe Yocum, Jacin Powers and Jake Crail.
