Sandra Esther Morriss

Sandra Esther Morriss, age 87, of Brookfield, beloved wife of Roger Morriss; loving mother of Timothy (Darlene) Morriss, Jonathan (Patti) Morriss, Nathanael (Carolyn) Morriss, and Elizabeth Morriss; proud grandmother of Hannah, Noah, Calvin, Wyatt, and Delia; dear sister of Arthur (Ruth) Schmid, and Sharon (Andrew) Dhuse; aunt and friend of many. She passed away on May 30, 2025, leaving a legacy of love and service that touched countless lives.

Sandra lived a life rich with creativity, compassion, and unwavering faith. Growing up on Olcott Avenue, she was a devoted member of Lockwood Bible Church and began her lifelong journey in Sunday School.

On May 7, 1950, Sandra was baptized at the New Covenant Baptist Church, deepening her spiritual roots. Her passion for art led her to take sketch classes at The Art Institute of Chicago in 1952 alongside her cousin Bev. She graduated 8th grade from Dever Elementary School on February 1, 1952, with dreams of becoming a commercial artist-a dream that fueled her creativity throughout her life.

During her high school years at Steinmetz, Sandra was an enthusiastic member of the Steinmetz Synchronettes and received a Certificate of Merit from the Scholastic Art Awards in 1955. She was a proud member of the National Honor Society and graduated from Steinmetz High School on January 27, 1956.

Her dedication to education continued, earning a degree from West Suburban College on August 7, 1959, and graduating from Wheaton College on June 12, 1961.

On August 22, 1964, Sandra married the love of her life, Roger Morriss, at Lockwood Bible Church. They shared 60 wonderful years of marriage together, filled with faith, family, and adventure. Together, they traveled and served, including unforgettable adventures seeing the country with friends, a marvelous faith-filling visit to Israel, and a selfless chapter in Brazil as Peace Corps volunteers.

Her heart for service extended to her role as a member of La Grange Bible Church, where she helped in many roles, and was an active participant on the Missions Committee. In retirement, she continued to travel and spend treasured time with family, nurturing her creative side through crafting and artistic pursuits.

Sandra will be remembered for her unwavering faith, artistic spirit, and gentle care for others. Her life was a testament to love, service, and the beauty of creating and sharing.

Services will be held on June 8, 2025, at LaGrange Bible Church, 850 S. 7th Ave., La Grange, IL 60525. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., followed by the funeral at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sandra's name to the Missions Committee at La Grange Bible Church are greatly appreciated.
