James Thomas Pritchard, Sr., age 77, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 after a twelve year journey with Alzheimer's. Jim graduated from South High School in 1958. He served for two years in the United States Army. Jim worked for Kern's Bakery for 28 years before taking early retirement in 1985. After that, he spent five years as Mr. Mom taking care of his family and home. Jim returned to work in 1991 at Berry Funeral Home until his retirement in 2005. Jim attended Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Trula Pritchard; in-laws, Basil and Cleo Tucker and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jim is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Sharon Tucker Pritchard; son James Thomas Pritchard, Jr. (Jimmy); daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Tim Jones; two beloved grandsons, Tyler Pritchard and Jake Jones and his faithful dachshund, Molly. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law BW and Jean Ann Tucker, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to express gratitude to all of our extended family, friends and church members for their love and support through the last twelve years while he was being cared for by Sharon, and to Dr. James Rivers, his nurse Debbie Greer and nurse Wynette Kirkland for their years of love and care and to UT Hospice for the kind, compassionate care provided in Jim's final days. Jim took great pride in his family and we take comfort in knowing that our Husband, Dad, Big Jim, and Poppa is free from Alzheimer's Disease and at peace. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2018 in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, Rev. Tom King and Rev. Richard Richter officiating. Family and friends will meet at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 12:00 Noon for the interment, Revs. Richard Richter and Monty Walton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 1615 Price Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37920 or to Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc. 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
