Sandra Jean Whitlock Piper, of
Roswell, GA passed away into the loving arms of her
Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 28, 2024. After a 13 year battle with Alzheimer's, she died
peacefully, surrounded by family at St. George Village. Born in Atlanta in 1945, Sandra attended
the old Roswell Elementary School on Mimosa and graduated in the class of 1962 from Roswell
High School. She attended UGA, but ultimately graduated from GA State University in 1966. In
1985, she earned a Master's degree in education from Oglethorpe University.
Sandra was a cheerleader, a member of the Beta Club, and an ambitious student
completing high school in 3 years. She met her future husband on a blind date at a formal
fraternity party held at the old Elks Club in Atlanta in 1963. She loved to dance and one of her
favorite pictures was taken at this event, both dressed in formal attire, after a full night of
dancing, each looking pleased with themselves. They were married at St. Jude Catholic Church
in Sandy Springs in 1967. Sandra taught high school for a short time before taking on the
crowning achievement of her life, becoming a mother and raising a family. Her son, Andy was
born in Florida, followed by her sons Dan and Ted in Illinois. After an 18 year hiatus and a
return to Roswell, her darling daughter, Holly, was born.
Sandra's hospitality and generosity with her time and talents were legendary. Never was
it known that a single visitor left her home without a full tummy or knowing they were valued. In
addition to being the chief family officer (CFO) and heart and soul of her family, Sandra would
continue her teaching profession intermittently in both elementary and middle school settings at
Queen of Angels, ET Booth, and the Fulton County School system. She especially enjoyed
working with children who needed extra assistance.
Sandra easily met, loved, and was loved by numerous friends at stops in Florida, Illinois,
and Pennsylvania before returning to Roswell in the late 70's. She was actively involved with her
church in all locations, helping coordinate Sunday School programs and leading Small Faith
groups. She served as lead in the Educational Ministry at St. Thomas Aquinas in the late 90's.
One special Small Faith group survived that period and met regularly during her battle with
Alzheimer's, very much a blessing for Sandra and her family. She was particularly dedicated to
the Pro-Life cause participating in the early Marches for Life in Washington D.C., then several in
downtown Atlanta. She even had a bumper sticker printed saying: "Thank You Mary For Not
Aborting Jesus" which she passed out one year during the Atlanta March.
Sandra was preceded in death by her mother & father, John & Ada Whitlock of Roswell,
and a grandson, Dominic Jude Piper. She is survived by her 4 children, 3 daughters-in-law, 11
grandchildren (Noah, Aidan, Sydney, Maggie, Jack, Emily, Mary, Joey, Jace, Ryan and DJ), and
her devoted husband, Jack.
There will be a visitation at Northside Chapel (12050 Crabapple Rd.
Roswell, GA) from
6-7:30pm on Thursday April 11, 2024. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter Chanel Catholic
Church (11330 Woodstock Rd, in Roswell) at 2:00pm on Friday April 12, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, family prefers donations be sent to: EWTN (5817 Old Leeds Road,
