Sandra Risher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Samuel J. Jones Funeral Home on Feb. 27, 2026.
Mrs. Sandy, affectionately known as Mom and Grandma, transitioned peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the blessed age of 85, surrounded by the love and legacy she built over a lifetime.

Born on January 13, 1941, to James and Melvin Malone, she was the youngest sister of Shirley Brock "Tiny" and Lula Mae Poole. She was the beloved matriarch of her family and a pillar of strength in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, where she raised eight children.

Mrs. Sandy was traditional in her values and warm in her spirit. Her home was known as the heart of the Hill District - a place where the door was always open, the stove was always warm, and everyone was always welcome. If you needed a plate, a place to stay, or someone to listen, you went to Mrs. Sandy's. She found joy in cooking meals that brought everyone to the table, thrifting, watching her "stories," and gathering around the table to talk about the good ole' days. She appreciated routine, tradition, and the simple pleasures that made a house feel like a home.

Above all, she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She helped raise generations, pouring wisdom, strength, and guidance into each life she touched. To be loved by Mrs. Sandy was to feel covered - in prayer, in protection, and in unwavering support. Mrs. Sandy was strength wrapped in gentleness. She was tradition, laughter, discipline, and love all in one. Her house shaped a neighborhood. Her heart shaped a family, and today we find comfort in knowing that she has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," and that she now rests in eternal peace.

She was preceded in death by her beloved sons Edward Risher and Larry Risher, her daughter Rochelle Risher, and her cherished grandbaby Keaozjae Brown.
