Sandra D. Roberts (Rosenblatt) had a legendary stubborn streak and was a fighter up until January 29, 2026. She was so stubborn that she refused to carry a cell phone-much to the frustration of her children, Jennifer and David. Her grandchildren, Vince, Emma, and Trevor, adored her feistiness and her impressive, seemingly bottomless appetite.
There are countless photos over the years of Sandra happily feasting on her favorite meals from Buffalo Joe's, Russell's Ribs, Hunan Egg Roll King, Great Beijing, Dengeo's, Patio, and Wolfy's-the list goes on. Her grandchildren also loved her legendary candy drawer, always stocked with favorites like York Peppermint Patties and coconut patties, along with the never-ending supply of ice cream in the freezer.
Her thirst for education and learning continued well into her later years. Sandra earned degrees and certifications from Loyola University, Roosevelt University, and Chicago State University. Over the years, she wore many professional hats-educator, paralegal, librarian-and she even taught taxi drivers (not how to drive, as that was admittedly not one of her strengths).
Sandra was truly a force of nature and will be remembered not only for her determination, but for the many jobs she worked to keep a roof over her children's heads. At one point, she worked three jobs to ensure the bills were paid. As a result, her children learned independence early-sometimes surviving on gas-station food or leaving a trail of chaos in the kitchen.
When she did have time to cook, she made her infamous cabbage soup, much to her children's dismay. The condo would reek for days. Her kids definitely preferred her sugar cookies. Years later, however, her grandson would devour that same cabbage soup, proudly declaring it "THE BEST MEAL EVER!"
Sandra became a second mom to many, and people often share stories with her children about the ways she helped them through difficult times. She loved her creature comforts-Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune were must-watch television. She collected turtles and had a special love for yellow roses, which reminded her of her own childhood.
Sandra was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
